 Hello people! It's crazy that this is the last blog for now. I had to rally think about what music I personally listen to for this blog. I tried to sort my playlist and see how many different cultures it encompasses and honestly its only like three...  So, I definitely need to do some more expanding of the ole pallet. Specifically for this blog, I really racked my brain to think of music from different cultures that I have listened to that I really find interesting or what speaks to my soul. So I will start off with a piece of music that reflects on my culture.  As some people know, I am Jewish, I grew up in a Messianic Jewish household. I was more connected to the Christian aspect of this so I am somewhat disconnected from my culture in terms of language and some traditional aspects.       I know I am very late to this blog, but life happens and we just have to keep on going! We all have our own unique view and history with music. It plays many roles in our lives, for some its a career, for some its therapeutic, and for some they would rather drink vinegar than listen to any tune. I really hope that doesn't apply to anyone reading this. All that being said, its important to ask and continue to learn about peoples relationship with music. Today I had an amazing conversation with one of my inspirations, who just so happens to be my mother, and here is what went down: Me- "What is your first memory of music?" Mom- "First memory of music? Church... my first memory is of the worship music and the choirs. Two of my aunts and cousins sang and I can remember always being around family members singing all the time." Me- "Did you have a music education growing up? How was it? When thinking back on my last 18 years of life (I know, that's not much but for me it has been a long time), so much music floods my mind. The genre of music spans many genres from contemporary worship to pop, and funk, and jazz, and of course the powerful ballads of Celine Dion and Adele. Most of my memories stem from music happening at that time. In this post I hope to share songs that mostly highlight my happier memories and also possible some that share more somber times. The earliest memory of music I have is being in the car with my family and I don't quite remember where we were going to or coming from, but all I know is I would always suggest Shake Your Groove Thing by Peaches and Herb.  Hello people! I am Jared Rosen and I am a Freshman Vocal Performance major here at Converse. I have been singing since before I was even in pre-school, I would make up my own songs to pass the time. I will admit I was not any good until post-puberty, much like most guys, but that is not important. I did choir all throughout school and began taking voice lessons in ninth grade. I was in our state champion high school choir the Clover Choraliers for all four years of high school. I'm not the only musician in my family, my brother and mother also sing, not as much as me or in such a formal setting, but they are both beautiful singers nonetheless. Along with singing I also act and do various crafts, AND I LOVE TO READ. I grew up in Clover, SC my whole entire life so I'd say I am very experienced with the south. In terms of my future goals I plan to go to grad school for Vocal Pedagogy and if I am lucky enough also pursue a doctorate. I hope to be able to go abroad for some schooli...
